TREVOR RICE – CELEBRANT :
Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to Willow Creek Winery.
My name is Trevor Rice, and I’m a civil celebrant.
It is my great pleasure to welcome you here today to witness the marriage of Peter and Tara.
On this special day, Tara and Peter would like to take a moment to honour the family and friends who are not with us today. They remember with love those who have gone before and know they would have been so proud to witness this ceremony. Their love is felt here today.
In their hearts, Peter and Tara are already committed to one another. This ceremony simply gives formal recognition to that beautiful commitment.
Cathryn will now read

CATHRYN :
I like you and I know why
I like you because you are a good person to like
I like you because when I tell you something special, you know it’s special
And you remember it a long, long time
You say, Remember when you told me something special
And both of us remember
When I think something is important you think it’s important too
We have good ideas
When I say something funny, you laugh
I think I’m funny and you think I’m funny too
Hah-hah!
I like you because you know where I’m ticklish
And you don’t tickle me there except just a little tiny bit sometimes
But if you do, then I know where to tickle you too
You know how to be silly – that’s why I like you If I am getting ready to pop a paper bag, then you are
getting ready to jump
HOORAY
I like you because when I am feeling sad
You don’t always cheer me up right away
Sometimes it is better to be sad
You can’t stand the others being so googly and gaggly every single minute
You want to think about things It takes time
I like you because if I am mad at you
Then you are mad at me too
It’s awful when the other person isn’t
They are so nice and oooh you could just about punch them on the nose
I can’t remember when I didn’t like you
It must have been lonesome then
Even if it was the 999th of July
Even if it was August
Even if it was way down at the bottom of November
I would go on choosing you and you would go on choosing me
Over and over again
And that’s how it would happen every time.
TREVOR RICE CELEBRANT:
Thank you Cathryn
TREVOR RICE CELEBRANT :
So how did Peter and Tara’s romance begin? Ladies and gentlemen, it started one Halloween with Tara being on Pete’s doorstep, but I’ll get to that later. It seems they have been on each other’s radar for some time and have mixed in the same circles. They each share one friend in common and that friend is none other than Nick, the best man.
Nick and Peter have been good friends since they were both in Grade 3 and Tara has known Nick for ten years and yes, their paths crossed. For years Peter and Tara and their respective flames often went out to functions organized by Nick. At some time, they must have filed each other somewhere in their message banks as a person to pursue when the time was right.
As luck would have it, they were single at the same time and things slowly changed from Nick saying to Pete that he’d bring Tara along when they were going out for a few drinks prior to Tara and Peter becoming an item. Both were interested in each other and identified that there was chemistry between them but were too shy to take the interest further.
Then on that fateful night of Halloween things changed. Tara turned up at Peter’s with a bottle of wine and suggested they go out for a Pizza. Pete agreed and won Tara over with his chivalry by opening her door and paying for the dinner. Another evening Nick, Peter and Tara went out to dinner. After dinner they went back to Pete’s. Nick drove home and Peter being the perfect host came up with the brilliant idea to make cocktails. Well, that was it and Tara had to stay because she was in no fit state to drive home.
A few nights later Peter invited Tara to dinner and impressed her by greeting her at the door holding a yellow rose. He tantalized her taste buds by lightly frying calamari which he had even caught. She was hooked and very impressed that a man who could hunt, could cook for her and greet her with flowers.
After that they were inseparable. In the following February Tara was going to a conference in Las Vegas and as Peter couldn’t bear to be separated from Tara decided to come to the conference as well. Their trip started and finished in San Francisco and they literally ate and drank their way through the trip. Oh yes, they also shopped and Peter came back with three extra suit cases of purchases. While at the conference in Las Vegas Peter and Tara toyed with the idea of having a quickie Vegas wedding but didn’t want to deprive their friends and family of the opportunity to witness their wedding. Their families half expected them to return home married but this is not so.
After leaving Vegas they went to New York and loved its vibrancy. They walked through Central Park and braved the streets of Harlem. When they returned home from the States things changed as Tara moved out from where she was living in Richmond to her mums in Viewbank and Peter moved back to his parents in Mt Martha. The separation killed them and within two weeks they had found the house in Surrey Hills and moved in together. They love eating and drinking and are happiest when sharing a meal with friends and family. So what is the secret of their relationship?
As you know both Peter and Tara love life and enjoy a good laugh. They are each other’s best friend, lover, confidant and protector. They feel that effective communication is essential in any relationship and that a sense of humor is mandatory. They also give each other the space to pursue their own interests.
Peter and Tara love their friends and family and are happiest when sharing a drink and a good yarn with them.
Tonight’s celebration is very important to them as it not only takes their relationship to a new level they are sharing it with, you, their dear family and friends. They would also like to thank you for your love and support through the years.
Tara has been tenderly walked down the aisle by her Uncle John to stand with Peter to be married today. John, do you give your blessing?
UNCLE JOHN: Yes, I give my blessing.

TREVOR RICE CELEBRANT : James will now read Fair Dinkum Love
Fair dinkum love isn’t about bringing in a dozen red roses.
It’s about bringing in the washing.
It’s not about standing next to your partner because they look good on your arm.
It’s about standing by them even when they look foolish. Fair dinkum love isn’t about stiff posture and smart clothes.
It’s about wrestling on the couch in your tracksuit.
It’s not about oysters and candle-lit dinners.
It’s about bringing home Chinese when your partner’s had a busy day.
Fair dinkum love isn’t about exciting getaways and fancy resorts.
It’s about being totally content sleeping-in together at home.
It’s not about gym memberships and facelifts.
It’s about growing old and fat together.
Fair dinkum love is not about romance or image or success.
Fair dinkum love is about two average people adoring and accepting each other for who they are.
TREVOR RICE CELEBRANT :
Now ladies and gentlemen it is now time for Peter and Tara to exchange rings. Rings as a symbol of marriage are thought to have originated in Ancient Egypt. The ring finger on the left hand is believed to have been chosen at that time as there is a vein in the finger that runs directly to the heart. The circle of a ring represents eternal love as it has neither a beginning nor an end.
Peter, could I have the rings? Peter, place the ring on Tara’s finger and repeat after me. Tara with this ring I will marry you today. Take it as an infinite sign of my love and devotion to you from now to eternity. It will be a reminder of my love wherever you go.
